Why chase multiple drivers when one is voiced right?
Where most flagship in-ears stack multiple balanced-armature drivers to cover the frequency range, the IE 900 uses a single 7mm Extra Wide Band dynamic driver — Sennheiser's argument that a single, precisely-tuned driver avoids the phase and crossover issues multi-driver designs have to manage. The shell is CNC-machined from zinc and stainless steel rather than moulded plastic.
At 16 Ω it's easy to drive from a phone directly, though a resolving DAC or the HDV 820 will let a source this capable be heard fully.

Do I need a DAC/amp for this?+
Not strictly — at 16 Ω it plays cleanly from a phone. But the IE 900 resolves enough detail that a good source (a proper DAC, or something like the HDV 820) is where you'll actually hear the difference over a phone dongle.
Why one driver instead of multiple balanced armatures?+
Sennheiser's position is that a single well-tuned dynamic driver avoids the crossover and phase-alignment compromises that multi-driver in-ears have to manage — the trade-off is engineering difficulty in the driver itself, which is where the XWB design and machined shell come in.
Can I get a balanced cable for it?+
The stock cable is MMCX-terminated, so third-party or Sennheiser balanced cables in 2.5mm/4.4mm are compatible — check with us before ordering to confirm your specific cable.
What does the warranty actually cover?+
