Do I need an amp for this?+
At 300 Ω, yes — a desktop DAC/amp is where the HD 650 is meant to be heard. A phone dongle will play it but won't get you the dynamics or bass control it's capable of.
How does it compare to the HD 600?+
Same driver family and impedance, different voicing — the HD 600 is more neutral and forward through the mids, the HD 650 is warmer, more relaxed, and slightly wider-sounding. Neither is 'better,' just different.
Can I use my existing Headgear Audio cable with it?+
Yes — the HD 650 uses the same dual-3.5mm connector as the HD 600 and HD 660S2, so any cable built for that family will fit.
